Job Details

Four postdoctoral scientist positions are immediately available for a neuroscience lab affiliated with  the Center for Brain Science and Neurodegenerative Diseases, Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, and Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Georgia. Candidates with motivation and ambition to participate a research team investigating neural circuit mechanisms underlying olfactory processing and dysfunction in health and neurodegenerative disorders including Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson’s disease are strongly encouraged to apply. Projects in the well-funded lab leverage cutting edge technologies including optogenetics and chemogenetics integrated with in vitro and in vivo neurophysiology, in vivo calcium imaging, or behavioral measurements to reveal functional mechanisms, neuroanatomy and immunohistochemistry combined with confocal and light-sheet microscopy to decipher principles of circuit organization and function or dysfunction in the central nervous system.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Work together with others in the team or independently to perform a wide variety of research experiments and procedures (in vitro or in vivo electrophysiology, calcium imaging in animal brain sub-regions, immunohistochemistry, behavioral tests, viral microinjection, brain slice preparation, confocal microscopy, et al.) .
  • Collect and analyze data; maintain and organize research data in computer, report and present experimental findings to the group and at scientific meetings. Write abstracts & manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications.
  • Assist the PI in preparing progress reports, presentations and meetings as required by the project.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

CORE COMPETENCIES:

  • Knowledge and experience in electrophysiology, immunohistochemistry, and/or behavioral tests, or other research techniques related to projects in the lab. Experience in writing abstracts & scientific manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication. Ability and experience in performing analysis of experimental data. Ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious work relations with faculty, staff, students and customers.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Ph.D. in neuroscience or related disciplines.

High self-motivation to learn new technologies and achieve scientific goals. Work experience in electrophysiology is preferred but not required.
