The Department of Psychology in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences at West Virginia University located in Morgantown, WV invites applications for a Teaching Assistant Professor starting August 11, 2023. This is a 9-month, full-time position with full benefits. Teaching Assistant Professor appointments have renewable terms of up to three years, with no limit on the number of terms. Teaching Assistant Professors are eligible for promotion, e.g., to Teaching Associate Professor and Teaching Professor; however, promotion to senior ranks is not a requirement for institutional commitment and career stability. The successful candidate will contribute to our rapidly growing undergraduate program in Neuroscience and assume significant student advising responsibilities. The undergraduate Neuroscience Program is an interdisciplinary program shared with the Department of Biology and the Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute at WVU.

The successful applicant must have 1) a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in neuroscience, psychology, or a closely related field (e.g., physiological psychology, biopsychology, psychophysiology, behavioral genetics); 2) demonstrate evidence (e.g., hands on experience)  or ability (e.g. through research, course work, and/or training)  to develop, implement, and assess innovative recruitment and/or advising initiatives; 3) excellent oral and written communication skills; 4) excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level.  ABD candidates will be considered with the expectation that the degree is earned by December 31, 2023. The teaching assignment is four courses per semester, including both entry-level and advanced undergraduate courses in neuroscience for both neuroscience and psychology majors, with course equivalencies granted for significant advising responsibilities. There is no traditional research assignment. Part-time summer advising is expected with additional compensation.

The Department of Psychology has 24 full-time faculty, 72 graduate students, and 753 undergraduate psychology and 132 neuroscience majors. Ph.D. training is offered in Behavior Analysis (ABAI accredited), Behavioral Neuroscience, Clinical and Clinical Child Psychology (APA accredited), and Life-Span Developmental Psychology.

WVU is a R1 research land grant university located within 90 minutes of Pittsburgh and 3.5 hours from the Washington/Baltimore area.
