Job Details
The program in Neuroscience at Bates College, a private liberal arts college in Maine, is seeking two full-time, one-year Visiting Assistant Professors to begin in August of 2023. We are open to most specialties but have some preference that one of the hires include potential clinical/medical relevance involving human subjects. The successful candidate will show promise of excellence and innovation in both teaching and scholarship and be prepared to teach classes at all levels of the curriculum, including teaching non-majors. A Ph.D. is required by August 1, 2023.
Bates values innovative, inclusive pedagogy and active scholarship, and we seek applicants who can successfully mentor undergraduates in research. The College and the Neuroscience Program are strongly committed to enhancing the diversity of our campus community and curriculum. Candidates with demonstrated success in teaching and supporting marginalized, first generation and historically underrepresented students are especially encouraged to apply. Applications from individuals in underrepresented groups and individuals who have followed non-traditional pathways to higher education due to societal, economic, or academic disadvantages are likewise encouraged.
Consideration of candidates will begin on March 31, and continue until the position is filled. Applications should include a cover letter, CV, list of graduate coursework taken, names of three references to be consulted for letters, teaching statement, statement on equity and inclusion, and research statement. In your materials, please describe how your teaching, scholarship, and/or mentorship could support the College’s historical and ongoing commitment to equity and inclusion. Competitive salary, plus benefits. Housing assistance may be available. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check. For more information about the College and the Program, please visit the Bates website: www.bates.edu/neuroscience.
