The Opportunity

Research within the Department of Physiology covers a wide range of integrative, cellular and molecular physiology, with particular strengths in sensory and systems neurosciences, cardiovascular and renal physiology, and metabolic disease. It is anticipated that the Department will play an important role in providing research underpinning the new heart hospital to be built on the Clayton campus. For more information please visit our website.

Reporting to the relevant senior academic within the Department of Physiology, the Research Fellow is expected to contribute towards the research effort of the University, in particular on how the brain processes sensory information, with a focus on individual neurons and the networks in which they are embedded, using advanced electrophysiological and optical techniques.

As the successful candidate you will be responsible for:

  • Conducting research under limited supervision and the production or contribution to the production of conference and seminar papers and publications
  • Development of a limited amount of research-related material for teaching or other purposes
  • Experimental design and operation of advanced laboratory and technical equipment or conduct of advanced research procedures
  • Attending meetings associated with research or the work of the organisational unit to which the research is connected

To be successful in the role, you will have a doctoral qualification in Neuroscience or a closely related field and demonstrated expertise in recording from single cells using either electrophysiology or imaging with either confocal or two-photon microscopy.

If this sounds like a position that suits your current career focus we look forward to hearing from you.
