Neuroscience Lecturer Position Announcement 2023

The Department of Psychology at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, invites applications to fill a full-time lecturer position to support our growing Neuroscience major.  This non-tenure-track position, which will begin August 1, 2023, will be renewable yearly, contingent upon evidence of excellent teaching and the department's staffing needs.  Applicants must have a PhD in Psychology, Neuroscience, Biology, or an equivalent field by August 2023.  The successful applicant should have the ability to teach foundational neuroscience courses and other courses relevant to our neuroscience and psychology majors, an interest in developing new courses and labs to meet the needs of our rapidly growing neuroscience major, and a demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence.

The Neuroscience major is the fastest growing major at the University, with approximately 650 majors and 100 minors.  In addition to the BS in neuroscience, the department offers a BA in psychology, which, at over 1,000 majors, is one of the largest undergraduate majors at the University.  The Department also has graduate programs in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Neuroscience and Behavior, Cognitive and Developmental Sciences, and Social Psychology.  We currently have 35 tenure-line faculty, 6 full-time lecturers, and several part-time lecturers.  All of our faculty highly value excellence in undergraduate education, and many of our faculty and graduate teaching assistants have won awards for their teaching at departmental, college, university, and national levels.  The University of Tennessee has a well-established promotion system for full-time, non-tenure track lecturers.  Information about the Department and the undergraduate programs is online at https://psychology.utk.edu/ . UT is located within easy driving distance to Asheville, Nashville, Atlanta, and the Great Smoky Mountains.  The city of Knoxville is a hidden gem with a beautiful and walkable downtown, varied nightlife, active neighborhoods, and eclectic shopping and restaurants.

Applicants should electronically submit materials via the Interfolio portal (apply.interfolio.com/120755 ). Application materials should include a 1) cover letter, 2) curriculum vitae, 3) teaching statement, 4) evidence of teaching effectiveness, 5) statement on diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts, and 6) three letters of recommendation.  Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
