Funding is available for a postdoctoral researcher focusing on how epigenetic and genomic mechanisms create discrete learning windows across development.

Generally, projects investigate how early life experience is encoded in neural circuits that control complex natural behavior.

A core part of this effort is a collaboration between the London neuroscience lab (londonlab.uchicago.edu) and Sebastian Pott’s genetics and genomics lab (pott-lab.uchicago.edu). This project employs spatial transcriptomics and multimodal single-cell methods to investigate how age, sex, and experience alters neural properties in ways that are predictive of learning.

In addition, the postdoc will be encouraged to develop their own research projects to pursue their interests and goals, consistent with the overall lab program.

The postdoc will be mentored to advance lab and analytic methods, gain experience in manuscript and grant writing, and be supported in career advancement. We strive to provide a collegial and inclusive environment that nurtures scientific creativity and rigor, within and across labs, to bolster success.

Ideal candidates would be interested in rigorously testing the connections between brain mechanisms and behavior. Projects typically require synthesis across multiple levels of analysis. As such, it is best to have experience in the application of molecular biology, genomics and/or epigenomics and/or behavioral analysis, microscopy, genomics, anatomical methods, or physiology. Scientists who are independent yet can work positively as part of a lab team are especially welcome. Candidates should have no more than 2 years of postdoctoral experience, though exceptions are possible.

The position is available starting March 15, 2023. Anyone interested in starting a conversation is invited to email Dr. Sarah London with "Postdoc Inquiry" in the subject; official application details can be shared following the initial inquiry.
