Postdoctoral positions are available in the NIH-funded lab of Dr. Usachev in the Department of Neuroscience and Pharmacology, University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine, USA, to work on one of the following projects:

1) Central mechanisms of chronic pain and novel circuits of descending pain modulation;

2) The mitochondrial Ca2+ uniporter (MCU) in the regulation of synaptic activity, seizure, epilepsy and neurotoxicity.

These projects are funded by three major NIH grants.

Multiple state-of-the art techniques are established in the lab, including multiphoton in vivo microscopy, EEG/EMG recording, cellular and subcellular Ca2+ imaging in cultured neurons and brain slices, patch-clamp recordings, opto- and chemo-genetic approaches and large array of mouse behavioral testing.

We seek highly motivated scientist with a Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree, with experience in patch-clamp recording, fluorescent microscopy, cell and molecular biological techniques, and mouse behavioral testing. You will be part of a highly interactive and collaborative team of researchers and have the opportunity to publish in high impact journals. Mentorship in grant-writing, career development awards, and preparing for and navigating the academic job market will be provided.

Salary range is $56,484 - $68,604/year (NIH scale) and commensurate with experience and NIH guidelines.
