A Postdoctoral Position is available in the Neuroscience Center at the LSU School of Medicine (New Orleans) to study the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying speech and language development and related neural developmental disorders such as autisms.

We use the songbird as a model to study the molecular mechanisms underlying neural circuit development, sensitive period plasticity, and vocal communication, taking advantage of zebra finches’ well-developed vocal learning behavior and experimentally accessible neural circuitry. We employ an integrative approach to investigate gene and epigenetic regulation, dendritic and synaptic development and plasticity, and vocal learning behavior of songbirds.

We are seeking an energetic and highly-motivated individual with a recent PhD in molecular neuroscience or related fields to join our team. Broad experiences in molecular cloning, cell culture, immunohistochemistry, microscope imaging, Western blot, qRT-PCR, and animal behavior analysis are especially desirable. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required; and intellectual and organizational ability to work on the project alone and in a team is required.

Interested candidates should send CV, a cover letter describing past research experience, interest, and future career goals, and names and contact information of three references to: xli4@lsuhsc.edu.
