Postdoctoral Associate in Genetics, Genomics, and Neuroscience

The Nair Laboratory at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) welcomes applications for a postdoctoral position. Our lab studies the genetics of ocular diseases with a primary focus on glaucoma and retinal diseases. Glaucoma is a common neurodegenerative disease and a leading cause of irreversible blindness. Our goal is to identify genes, molecular mechanisms and cellular networks contributing to glaucomatous neurodegeneration. The lab employs a variety of multi-disciplinary approaches to dissect the role of complex disease-associated genes at a mechanistic level.  The lab has successfully combined the use of human genetics and mouse models to uncover critical genes contributing to glaucoma and related phenotypes, and retinal diseases (relevant manuscripts can be found the below link to the lab’s website). The goal of the current research is to gain deeper insight into disease mechanisms as well as test newer therapeutic interventions.

We are looking for motivated candidates with an interest in understanding the causes and cellular/molecular mechanisms of human neurodegenerative diseases. The successful candidate will work in a collegial, interdisciplinary research environment and integrate use of animal models, genetics, genomics, molecular biology, neurobiology, and physiology-based experiments. The lab is well funded by multiple grants from the National Institute of Health (NIH) and other foundations. As a university policy, the salaries are significantly higher than NIH/NRSA scale with additional housing allowance provided by the Department. UCSF provides quality on-campus housing and related services to postdocs. The successful candidate will be part of a postdoctoral training program providing ample support to prepare them for a career in academia or industry, including grant writing opportunities.

UCSF is rated as one of the top research institutions with its state of art research facilities. It provides an enriching research environment with ample opportunities to evolve as a researcher, as well as proximity to major biotech hubs. Interested candidates should e-mail a Cover letter with a statement of research experience and career goals , CV, and contact information of two referees to Saidas Nair ( More information can be found in the lab’s website:
