A Research Associate position is available immediately in the laboratory of Dr. Cuihong Jia at East Tennessee State University School of Medicine. The lab is studying the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying olfactory neuroplasticity and function. The research associate will work on a project focusing on improving olfactory neuroplasticity and function via olfactory stem cell signaling. The lab employs in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo methods as well as molecular, immunofluorescence, and behavioral techniques to address our goals. The successful candidate will join a group of researchers interested in olfactory neuroplasticity, a department with a neuroscience concentration, and a College of Medicine with numerous opportunities to collaborate to study the neuroregeneration following injury. As a research associate, she/he will assist the PI in managing the lab and mouse colonies, independently perform experiments, data analysis and prepare manuscript/report, as well as train technicians and graduate students. The position is supported by an NIH grant.
Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in biomedical science with previous experience in protein and DNA/RNA analysis, immunohistochemistry, Microscopy-based cell counting, confocal imaging, frozen tissue processing and sectioning, in vitro primary cell cultures, and mouse handling and dosage.
Desired Qualifications: prior laboratory experience with animal models, strong written and verbal communication skills, self-motivated and capable of working independently and in a team-based environment,
