Two Faculty (Assistant Professors) Center of Brain Health

The School of Computer, Mathematics, and Natural Sciences (SCMNS) and the Center for Brain Health at Morgan State University invite applications for two full-time, tenure-track faculty positions in neuroscience at the level of assistant professor. We are seeking applications in two thematic areas:
 

Area One: Neurophysiological and/or computational approaches to processes such as attention, learning, and memory or perception/sensation regarding the mental and physical health of minority populations. We are especially interested in candidates who can apply neuroimaging techniques such as fMRI and EEG and non-invasive neuromodulation techniques. We seek individuals who will complement faculty interests in research of stress, mental and substance use disorders, and neuroinflammation and who can collaborate across disciplines.

Area Two: Cellular and molecular neuroscience approaches to study processes related to brain health. We are especially interested in applicants with experience in genetics/genomics & epigenetics with competency in data science. We seek individuals who will complement faculty interests in the research of stress, mental and substance use disorders, and neuroinflammation/neuroimmune disorders and who can collaborate across disciplines.

Applicants must have completed a Ph.D. or equivalent and relevant postdoctoral training. Applicants should have a background of research accomplishments with a strong trajectory of peer-reviewed publications and potential for external funding. The successful applicant is expected to establish an independent externally funded research program, mentor students in their research team, and teach in graduate and/or undergraduate programs in the SCMNS, as appointed to the department closest to their disciplinary background.

Morgan State University is Maryland’s Preeminent Public Urban Research University and a Historically Black College and University (HBCU). Founded in 1867 as the Centenary Biblical Institute, MSU is today an R2 institution with a rapidly growing research portfolio aiming to become an R1 institution within our current 10-year strategic plan. MSU offers 140 academic programs (including 23 programs leading to the doctoral degree) and serves over 9,000 students. The university provides cutting-edge core laboratory facilities in cellular/molecular biology and data science, among others.
 

The overall focus of the Center of Brain Health at MSU is to conduct rigorous research on brain science and health disparities and train a diverse body of scholars in brain science/neuroscience. The Center will be strategically situated at the intersection of the life sciences and information technology/engineering (big data, machine learning) and strongly emphasize health disparities research. A prominent focus of the Center will be on brain health related to African Americans, a very understudied area in brain research. The Center will be collaboratively engaged with other new Centers at MSU, such as the Center for Urban Health Equity and the Center for Data Science and Data Analytics. The Center will also serve as a collaborative hub for external academic, government, and industry interests in Maryland and beyond.
