Physician (Clinical) Senior Clinician

The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), a major research component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), is inviting applications for a Senior Clinician in the Office of the Clinical Director at the NIMH in the Intramural Research Program. The position serves as a Physician responsible for the management of substantial resources greater than or equal to 2 million dollars and is also responsible for managing and coordinating all functional requirements of the Sleep and Neurodevelopment Service/Team.

Specifically, the position is responsible for long-range planning and strategy development for activities involving clinically relevant programs across NIMH, providing scientific leadership and direction for a wide-ranging portfolio of research projects as they relate to sleep and neurodevelopment. The position also serves as a primary investigator or project member for research projects of broad and complex scope to investigate and treat problems that are exceptionally difficult and unyielding to investigate and/or require unconventional or novel approaches or complex research techniques. Expertise using electrophysiologic sleep data in the study of autism, disorders of social cognition and other neurodevelopmental disorders, childhood psychiatric disorders, and unique clinical presentations of neurogenetic syndromes, such as those associated with genetic disorders or those with a unique family history is highly desirable. Specifically, research and clinical experience in evaluating the degree to which the development and maturation of sleep patterns, with an emphasis on the relationship of those patterns to electrophysiological signals, can predict cognitive and behavioral outcomes.

The successful candidate must be board certified in Sleep Medicine and committed to fostering scientific excellence and highly collaborative research in Child Neurology. He/She should have a strong track record with significant accomplishments that demonstrate expertise and achievement in sleep and neurology. Minimum Qualifications: Applicants should have an M.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. The individual must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the United States and be eligible to be credentialed for patient care by the NIH Clinical Center. The person selected for this position will need to have experience working in and managing teams from diverse backgrounds and experience with mentoring in clinical and research settings. Advanced training in Patient-Oriented Clinical Research is preferred but not required.

Applicants must possess demonstrable experience and skills in management and supervision, budget oversight, and resource allocation. In addition, applicants must possess the ability to analyze data and prioritize and delegate resources while managing multiple projects. Expertise and experience should include the demonstration of positive and collegial interactions with staff at all levels and with scientific staff to promote and facilitate their research and scholarly contributions.

Salary/Benefits: This is a federal full-time equivalent position, and a comprehensive benefits package including leave, health and life insurance, retirement, and savings plan (401k equivalent) is available. Salary will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and accomplishments.
