The laboratory of Professor Xian-Jie Yang at University of California Los Angeles is seeking postdoctoral fellows to study retinal degenerative diseases and neuroprotection mechanisms using mouse and human stem cell-based retinal organoid models. These positions provide opportunities for highly motivated and independent-minded individuals to conduct basic and translational research. The Yang laboratory uses molecular genetic approaches including cell type-specific gene manipulation, single cell RNA-sequencing, super resolution imaging, CRISPR gene editing, and viral vector-mediated gene delivery. In addition, the Yang lab is establishing human pluripotent stem cell-based retinal organoids as disease models and developing therapies. 

The Yang lab is situated in the renowned Stein Eye Institute. In addition of being a part of the vision science community, the Yang lab is a member of UCLA Brain Research Institute, Molecular Biology Institute, and the Broad Stem Cell Research Center. The successful candidate should have a PhD, and will be expected to spearhead research, develop novel analytical techniques, have excellent written communication skills, the ability to work effectively and collegially in a laboratory team setting with graduate and undergraduate student colleagues, and train/mentor students.

The available positions are funded by NIH and California Institute for Regenerative Medicine. Salary and benefits will depend on prior experiences and be consistent with NIH standards. UCLA is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
