Job Details

We plan to hire a highly motivated post-doctoral fellow interested in pursuing a research project focusing on the mechanisms of epileptogenesis and seizure propagation. Funded available projects include studies on epileptogenesis, on seizure propagation and on the physiology of Dravet's syndrome. Depending on the project the fellow would use tools ranging from patch-clamp electrophysiology to mesoscopic 2-photon Imaging, spatial light modulation optogenetics and large-throughput in situ spatial transcriptomics (MERFISH). Highly motivated applicants with a strong record of achievement in neuroscience and facility with analytical methods are welcome to apply. Prior experience with 2-photon imaging, classical electrophysiology, and/or molecular and cellular biology methods is desirable, but not necessarily essential. If interested, please contact via e-mail the PI: Stelios Smirnakis, Department of Neurology, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, at smsmirnakis@bwh.harvard.edu to arrange an interview. If you are in San Diego for SFN 22, a face to face meeting with the PI can be arranged until the 16th of November.

Company

The Smirnakis' laboratory is based at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School. Research focuses on studying neural circuit function in the visual system as well as malfunction in disease states such as epilepsy and autism. Experimental techniques that pertain to the postdoctoral position advertised include: large field of view (mesoscopic) 2-phtoton imaging, spatial light modulation single-cell specific optogenetics, as well as in vivo and in vitro patch-clamp electrophysiology.
