The Morris-Blanco lab of the Cell and Developmental Biology Department and Epigenetics Institute at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine (PSOM) is looking for an enthusiastic postdoctoral researcher to join our growing team. The major focus of our lab is to investigate epigenetic mechanisms involved in stroke pathophysiology by examining the interplay between spatial and temporal epigenetic dynamics, transcriptional regulation, and mitochondrial function in the post-stroke brain. Using both in vitro and in vivo experimental stroke models, our work employs gene-specific and genome wide assessments of epigenomic organization, single-cell omics, metabolomics, and functional assessments of mitochondria and neuroprotection.
A PhD/MD with a strong background in neuroscience, cellular and molecular biology, genetics, or biochemistry is required. Candidates that are within a few months of completion of their PhD are also eligible to apply. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in any of the following areas: epigenetics and RNA/DNA sequencing technologies, mitochondria/metabolism, imaging technologies, rodent surgical or behavioral analyses, or primary neuronal/astrocyte cell culture. However, motivated and enthusiastic candidates with other cell and molecular expertise are encouraged to apply.
The University of Pennsylvania hosts a highly interactive neuroscience community. Furthermore, the Department of Cell and Developmental Biology and Penn Epigenetics Institute brings together a strong research community with shared resources, that allows scientific breakthroughs to flourish. The candidate will have the opportunity to join this rich research environment with abundant opportunities for collaborations with other labs and institutions within Penn. Furthermore, the Penn Biomedical Postdoctoral Programs office provides further professional development and career support for all postdocs in the PSOM.
Interested candidates should send a brief description of research interests, a curriculum vitae, and contact information for 3 references to Dr. Kahlilia Morris-Blanco at Kahlilia.firstname.lastname@example.org
