Job Details

Multiple openings are available for postdoctoral scientists to study the pathogenic mechanisms of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and Parkinson’s disease (PD).  Current projects include defining roles of Autophagy-Lysosomal system, Unfolded Protein Response, Stress Activated Pathways (AMPK and Nrf2), Oxidative Stress (GSH/Glo-1/Sulfanegen), Senescence, and adoptive immunity (Treg) in AD and PD.  Projects will utilize mouse genetics, cell biological/biochemical approaches, genomic analysis (RNAseq, snRNAseq, Spatial transcriptomics), quantitative neuropathology, behavioral analysis, and neurophysiology.  The lab is prioritizing individuals who have background or interested in the following approaches: quantitative analysis of neuropathology and neurodegeneration, studies of protein quality control, and/or single cell/spatial transcriptomics.  The projects are funded by multiple grants from Federal/Private sources and involve extensive national/international collaborations with a diverse group of investigators.  For example, Dr. Lee’s laboratory is part of the Aligning Science Across Parkinson’s Collaborative Research Network (https://parkinsonsroadmap.org) that provide significant international networking opportunities.  The laboratory is located within the Wallin Medical Biosciences Building at University of Minnesota, housing the Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases, Institute for Institute for Translational Neuroscience, and Center for Immunology.

Candidate will join a highly collaborative, vibrant, and supportive laboratory environment currently consisting of multiple postdoctoral fellows and supporting staff.  Candidates must have a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree with strong background in relevant Biomedical Sciences, including Neuroscience, Cell/Molecular Biology, or Biochemistry. Fluency in English is also essential.  Significant experiences in neurodegenerative disease or relevant approaches are highly preferred.  Appointment level and salary will be commensurate with the relevant experience.  Dr. Lee will be attending SFN 2022 at San Diego and those attending the meeting are encouraged to contact Dr. Lee as soon as possible.

The laboratory is part of active Neuroscience community consisting of ITN (https://www.med.umn.edu/research/research-strengths-expertise/neuroscience/institute-translational-neuroscience), Department of Neuroscience (https://neurosci.umn.edu/).

Twin Cities (Minneapolis-St Paul) is 16th largest metro area in USA and considered one of the best cities for young professionals in USA. (https://www.cnbc.com/2022/01/13/here-are-the-top-10-cities-for-young-professionals-looking-to-move.html)

Candidates should email C.V. (including citizenship/VISA information), brief statement of prior research and future goals (1-2 pages) and contact information for at least 2 references to Michael K. Lee, Ph.D. (mklee@umn.edu).
