The laboratory of Dr. Adam Kepecs is seeking passionate and creative scientists to join and contribute to understanding the neural circuits underlying cognition and developing new approaches to biological psychiatry.
We are an interdisciplinary team with lab members from diverse disciplinary backgrounds from electrical engineering, and molecular biology to cognitive psychology. Our lab applies a wide variety of cutting-edge techniques that enable studies from the cellular to brain-wide levels, including high-throughput behavioral training systems for rats and mice, high-density electrophysiology, miniscope imaging, viral tracing, spatial transcriptomics, closed-loop optogenetic stimulation, functional ultrasound imaging, and other modern neuroscience tools.
By gaining a mechanistic understanding of how brains produce cognitive behaviors, often beyond the capacity of current AI algorithms, we hope to uncover new computational principles. We are also excited about new research directions that bridge from animal studies to mental illness using cross-species computational psychiatry approaches and novel mouse models.
Potential projects include but not limited to cell-type-specific imaging, spatial transcriptomics and manipulation of frontal cortical circuits to neuro-immune interactions underlying depression in mouse models of chronic inflammation.
The ideal candidate will have experience with data analysis and familiarity with or interest in learning cutting-edge neuroscience methods. We are committed to fostering diversity in science to create a team with varied perspectives, backgrounds and disciplines. Applications from traditionally underrepresented groups are particularly encouraged to apply.
Washington University in St Louis has a large and diverse neuroscience community with opportunities for training, collaboration, and translational research.
