Job Details
Postdoctoral positions are available to study neurodegeneration and neural repair in Stephen Strittmatter's laboratory.
Neurodegeneration research based on unbiased discovery of neuronal pathways mediating the toxicity of misfolded disease-related proteins. Investigations include CRISPR screening in human iPSC derived neurons and glia, investigation of neuro-immune intereaction in neurodegeneration, extensive snRNAseq profiling and behavioral studies in gene-targeted mouse models, structural analysis by cryo-EM of signaling complexes, and translational development of novel therapeutics for neurodegenerative diseases. Focus on Alzheimer's, disease, Fronto-temporal dementia and Parkinson's disease.
Neural repair mechanistic studies are based on whole-genome loss-of-function discovery of novel intrinsic pathways essential to limit axon regeneration. Work involves CRISPR screening in human iPSC derived neurons, in vivo gene editing, functional outcomes and translation to therapeutic development. Models include traumatic spinal cord injury, head injury, optic nerve crush and glaucoma.
Successful candidates will be highly motivated to neuroscience discovery with previous peer-reviewed first-author original research publications and a Ph.D. in Neuroscience or related field.
Funded by NIH grants R35NS097283, R01AG034924, R01AG066165, RF1AG070926, R56AG074015, U01AG058608 and P30AG066508.
