The Peri-Operative neurocognitive Research Team (PORT lab; PI Dr Miles Berger) at Duke University Medical Center is looking for a lab manager/research project leader. For more on our work see . Our lab focuses on:


1) understanding mechanisms that lead to postoperative neurocognitive disorders such as delirium in older adults, and


2) on identifying mechanisms by which the APOE4 allele leads to synapse loss, neurodegeneration, cognitive decline, and Alzheimer’s disease.


We are looking for a highly organized, detail-oriented individual who can help oversee translational research studies in human subjects- including team management, tracking budgets, managing sample shipment logistics (incoming & outgoing) and collaboration agreements (material and data use & transfer agreements, etc), some IRB work and overseeing project timelines/progression, ensuring safety trainings are up to date for all team members, helping with NIH progress reports, etc. Minimum qualifications include: bachelors degree plus 2-4 years of research experience; graduate school time can substitute for experience.


Our work is multidisciplinary & incorporates basic science approaches/methods (including functional MRI, biomarker studies, flow cytometry, etc) in human subjects/samples. We are fortunate to have individuals in our lab from diverse educational/professional backgrounds, including a neuropsychologist, neuroimaging and systems neuroscientists, statisticians, clinical research staff, basic scientists, medical students and undergraduates, and to have strong collaborators at other institutions in & outside of the USA. Thus, the successful applicant for this position will also have excellent communication skills as well as organizational abilities.
