Postdoctoral Position in Molecular and Cellular Neuroscience

We are seeking highly enthusiastic and motivated postdocs for molecular and cellular studies on the repair or compensatory mechanisms in brain cells in response to brain injury or risk factors of neurodegenerative diseases or psychiatric disorders.

Location: Dr. Yong Kim’s Lab (Associate Professor, Dept. of Neurosurgery, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, Rutgers University), located in the Staged Research Building on Busch campus in Piscataway, New Jersey.

Research Focus: 1) Molecular and cellular studies of transgenic mouse models of depression or depression comorbidity in epilepsy, 2) Molecular and cellular interactions between cerebrovascular system and interneurons and their alterations in stress-induced depression or neurodegenerative diseases, 3) Roles of actin regulators in the pathophysiology of neurodegenerative diseases.

Lab website: http://yongkimlab.com/

Required Qualifications: Ph.D. degree in biomedical or biological sciences with high motivation toward basic neuroscience research. Candidates must have a strong research background in at least one of the following research areas: molecular and cellular neuroscience (with particular focus on neurodegenerative diseases, psychiatric disorders, brain injury, or epilepsy), behavioral studies using rodent models, genomics, proteomics, molecular biology and cell biology.

Preferred research techniques/approaches: Mouse handling and characterization of transgenic mouse models, surgical techniques including stereotaxic injection, chemogenetics, optogenetics, immunohistochemistry or RNA fluorescence in situ hybridization, TRAP/RNAseq or sc/snRNA-seq. Cognitive or affective behavioral tests. Basic biochemistry or molecular biology techniques for the studies of DNA, RNA or/and protein including subcloning, mutagenesis or gene-editing, plasmid and viral vector construction and amplification. Organelle isolation and protein purification and characterization. Tissue culture techniques (experience with established cell lines, primary cell culture including neurons, oligodendrocytes or endothelial cells, or iPSCs-derived neurons).

How to apply: Please send the following documents directly to Dr. Yong Kim (yk539@rwjms.rutgers.edu): (1) cover letter with a brief statement of research background and interest, (2) curriculum vitae and (3) a list of three professional references with contact information.
