The goal of the Gillespie Lab at the University of Washington is to understand how the neural mechanisms underlying memory processes degrade over the course of healthy aging and in the context of neurodegenerative disease. We are working to develop novel interventional tools to prevent or reduce detrimental changes in neural activity and preserve cognitive ability. The lab uses in vivo electrophysiology to record from hundreds of neurons from rats as they learn and perform complex memory-dependent tasks. We engineer real-time neurofeedback approaches to manipulate neural activity and use advanced analytical techniques and computational models to relate neuronal activity to memory-guided behavior. For more information about our work, please see www.gillespie-lab.com.
We are looking for postdoctoral researcher to spearhead new projects in the lab. Postdocs will receive training in hippocampal electrophysiology, neural implant construction and design, behavioral task design and management, and will have access to transgenic rat models of Alzheimer’s disease and wildtype rats of advanced ages. All team members, including postdocs, will receive individualized mentorship and will be encouraged to develop their own lines of research. We are seeking a collaborative, proactive colleague, eager to learn and contribute their own ideas and committed to working full time to conduct rigorous experiments. This position will be available starting in January 2023.
The Gillespie Lab is committed to providing a welcoming and supportive environment for all lab members. We strongly encourage applications from individuals with underrepresented backgrounds.
