The Kimbrough Lab (www.kimbroughlab.com) has a position available for a Postdoctoral researcher interested in substance use disorders. The position is funded through a 5-year NIH R01 grant to study the relationship of heavy alcohol drinking and Alzheimer’s Disease. The Kimbrough Lab is located at Purdue University in West Lafayette Indiana and is housed in the Department of Basic Medical Sciences, which is part of the College of Veterinary Medicine. The Postdoctoral researcher will conduct behavioral and histology experiments associated with alcohol drinking and Alzheimer’s Disease. Studies will involve preclinical mouse models of alcohol use disorder, chemogenetic or pharmacological manipulation, whole-brain clearing and imaging, and computational analysis.
We are seeking someone with a background in behavioral, molecular, or computational neuroscience. Previous experience with rodent behavior, preclinical behavioral models of substance use disorder, stereotaxic surgery, intravenous catheter surgery, histology, and proficiency in python/R are ideal, but are not required.
The Postdoctoral researcher will be expected to contribute to a positive work environment within the lab and work to mentor undergraduate and graduate students. Applicants will be encouraged to submit proposals for independent funding and undertake opportunities for career development. In addition, the Postdoctoral researcher will be expected to contribute input to experimental design, prepare and analyze data, write and publish manuscripts, and regularly present findings at conferences.
Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. degree in Neuroscience, Pharmacology, Behavioral Psychology, Biology, or other relevant field.
