A postdoctoral position is immediately available in the laboratory of Drs. John Disterhoft and Craig Weiss at the Department of Neuroscience, Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. The research is focused on Learning and Memory in Temporal Lobe. A major focus is on identifying the neuronal changes in the hippocampus and associated cortical regions (prefrontal and entorhinal cortices) during acquisition and recall of learned behavior in young and aging rats. Techniques to be used include many single neuron recording with moveable tetrodes, miniature microscope (miniscope) recording of calcium activity (see Wirtshafter and Disterhoft, J Neuroscience, 2022), optogenetic activation/inactivation of specific neuron types.
PhD or MD required; at least one first authored peer reviewed publication; strong communication skills and proficiency in spoken and written English. Experience with behavioral neuroscience focused on learning and memory, including in vivo recording and stimulation approaches, preferred.
