The Wheaton College (MA) Department of Psychology invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning July 1, 2023. Area of specialty is open, but the department particularly encourages applicants with a clinical or neuroscience focus who are able to contribute to the college’s efforts to increase racial equity and social justice.

The Psychology department values diversity and is committed to building a culturally diverse intellectual community. To this end, we have undertaken ongoing, intentional conversations to enhance inclusion and belonging within the department and are planning concrete steps towards fostering a department more representative of the communities we serve. We strongly encourage applications from candidates from backgrounds underrepresented in higher education.

Wheaton College provides students a transformative educational experience in a supportive liberal arts curriculum that cultivates curiosity, passion, and career aspirations. We seek a colleague who has a record of success advising and mentoring students from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds, and of fostering inclusion and diversity in teaching, service, and research. We especially encourage candidates whose research programs and/or teaching and mentoring practices attend to issues of racism and social justice, broadly defined.

The teaching responsibilities include core courses in the candidate’s area of study, a specialized seminar related to the candidate’s work, and general courses such as Introduction to Psychology or Introduction to Neuroscience, Quantitative or Qualitative Research Methods, or Statistics for the Social Sciences.

Wheaton houses a fully staffed animal facility and research labs that include several newly constructed interview/observation spaces, RA offices, Observer software, a wet bench research lab space (outfitted with a fume hood, -80 freezer, microtomes, and cryostat), as well an animal observation lab, small animal testing devices,  and human physiological measurement capabilities that include a Faraday shielded, 128-channel high density EGI hydrocel EEG recording system and eye tracking technology.

For full consideration, please upload a cover letter, curriculum vitae, research statement (including a description of how students will be engaged in your work and how equitable paths to engagement will be made), diversity and equity statement, teaching statement (including evidence of inclusive practice), evidence of teaching effectiveness (for instance in the form of teaching evaluations), a copy of up to three representative publications, and contact information for three references.

Please address any questions about the position or the selection process to Dr. Kathleen Morgan at morgan_kathleen@wheatoncollege.edu.

Review of applications will begin on October 7, 2022. Please consider submitting by this deadline to be given full consideration.

The Wheaton Psychology Department includes 9 tenured/tenure-track professors that study the breadth of the field and contribute to multiple interdisciplinary majors on campus. Tenure-track faculty at Wheaton are entitled to a fully paid pre-tenure sabbatical, research space, and research funds to support scholarship will be made available.
