The Department of Biology at the College of Charleston invites applications for a tenure-track position in Neuroscience at the Assistant Professor level to begin August 2023. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Neuroscience or a related field and a strong commitment to teaching and maintaining an active research program involving undergraduate and possibly master’s students. Preference will be given to candidates with teaching and post-doctoral experience, a strong publication record, prior experience with student mentoring, and potential for extramural funding.

We are particularly interested in candidates who will complement strengths of existing biology and neuroscience faculty and whose study system is feasible for student mentoring at the College of Charleston. The successful candidate will contribute to the interdisciplinary neuroscience program, neuroscience-minor.cofc.edu/. Primary teaching responsibilities will include a 2-semester neuroscience foundation sequence, a senior-level neuroscience seminar, a specialized neuroscience elective course related to the candidate’s field of expertise, and other courses in the Biology major. A typical semester load would normally include 9 contact hours, where laboratories count as 3 contact hours.

The College of Charleston, located in Charleston, SC, is a public liberal arts and sciences institution of 11,000 students, with MS programs in Marine Biology and Environmental Studies, and a commitment to excellence in teaching and research. The Medical University of South Carolina is located a few blocks from the main campus and offers the opportunity for research collaboration. Satellite College facilities include the 850+ acre Stono Preserve located 18 miles west of Charleston, SC and the Grice Marine Laboratory which is close to the downtown campus. There are numerous nearby natural areas including Francis Marion National Forest, protected areas, barrier islands, and there are ample opportunities to collaborate with researchers at neighboring research institutions including: the Citadel, South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, USC, Clemson Coastal Research and Education Center, and USDA Vegetable lab.
