Record from rats implanted with the NXN electrode, a new version of the Neurotrophic Electrode, assembled by Jamie Hetke at NeuroNexus. The data will be analyzed as follows: Separate the single units from the continuous stream of 16 channels, perform autocorrelations and inter spike interval histograms to confirm single units. Neural activity will be generated by sensory stimulation of whiskers (or fur) and the expected different patterns of single unit firings will be determined. Individual wavefiles will be attached to the different patterns of neural activity. On deflecting individual whiskers, the activated wavefiles will output different phrases. On completion of this study the candidate will join the human study.
All equipment is available and the software paradigms are being written by other members of the team. The rat implantations are performed by the neurosurgeon, Dr. Cervantes. Position is available now. Funding is for 2 years, with funded expected to continue. Salary is $75,000 plus health care insurance for candidate and family.
