Tenure-Track Assistant or Associate Professor in Cognitive Neuroscience

  Lawrence University of Wisconsin, a selective undergraduate liberal arts college and conservatory of music located in Appleton, Wisconsin, invites applications for the Dennis and Charlot Singleton professor of Cognitive Neuroscience to begin September 1, 2023. Appointment to this full-time position will be at either the Assistant or Associate Professor level commensurate with the candidate’s experience. This person will be involved in the continuing development of our interdisciplinary Neuroscience (major/minor) and Cognitive Science (minor) programs and work closely with faculty in Psychology, Biology, and other allied disciplines, such as Philosophy, Education, or Computer Science.  

We are seeking an individual who is a dedicated teacher passionate about working with undergraduate students in a liberal arts setting, an active and engaging scholar, and an effective mentor for students from diverse backgrounds. Primary duties include: teaching, assessment of student work, advising and mentoring students, collaborating with faculty on curriculum development, maintaining an active research program, and program/departmental and institutional duties. The teaching load is two courses per term for three ten-week terms a year. The successful candidate should be prepared to (1) develop and teach a research methods-based course annually, (2) teach Cognitive Neuroscience, (3) teach Foundations in Neuroscience and Topics in Neuroscience on a rotating basis, (4) contribute to our senior experience in Neuroscience and Lawrence’s First-Year Studies program periodically, and (5) develop courses that reflect their area of specialty.  

Candidates should include undergraduate students in their research program and otherwise connect scholarship with teaching. Laboratory space and start-up funds are available for establishing a research program. Candidates’ research should be dedicated to understanding how neural mechanisms relate to human cognition. The successful candidate should include the collection, analysis, or modeling of human data using brain imaging methodologies. In their research statement candidates are encouraged to discuss how their scholarship may be particularly suited to a liberal arts setting and how it may serve traditionally understudied cultures or populations.
