Assistant Professor of Neuroscience

The Department of Neuroscience at Oberlin College invites applications for a full-time tenure track faculty position in the College of Arts and Sciences in the area of Developmental Neuroscience. Initial appointment to this position will be for a term of 4 years, beginning Fall semester of 2023. Assistant Professor rank preferred but Associate Professor rank may be considered.

Founded in 1833, Oberlin is a private four-year, highly selective national liberal arts college near Cleveland, Ohio and is also home to an outstanding Conservatory of Music. The Neuroscience Department at Oberlin College is one of the oldest and largest undergraduate neuroscience departments in the country. The Department’s extensive labs and facilities are housed in the College’s science center. The Department emphasizes a broad, interdisciplinary approach and encourages students to seek out research opportunities in both laboratory classes and in independent research.

The incumbent will teach the standard teaching load of 4.5 courses per year. This will include lecture and laboratory classes in the area of Developmental Neuroscience, a lecture class at the introductory level, a non-majors course and/or a seminar in their area of expertise at either the introductory or advanced level. The ability to develop courses that will contribute to the College’s new integrative concentration in Global Health is highly desirable.

The incumbent will also be expected to engage in sustained scholarly research and/or other creative work appropriate to the position, and to participate in the full range of faculty responsibilities, including academic advising and service on committees. Applicants who can bring research models, innovative approaches and a research program that complements existing expertise within the department are especially encouraged to apply.

Among the qualifications required for appointment is the PhD degree (in hand or expected by Fall semester of academic year 2023-24). Candidates must demonstrate commitment to and potential excellence in undergraduate teaching. Successful teaching experience at the college level is desirable.
