Director, Eaton-Peabody Laboratories and Vice Chair for Basic Research

Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery

Harvard Medical School and Mass Eye and Ear

The Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (OHNS) at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear (MEE) seeks applications from senior researchers interested in the position of Director of the Eaton-Peabody Laboratories (EPL) and Vice Chair for Basic Research in OHNS and have experience to be appointed at the rank of Professor or Associate Professor of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery at Harvard Medical School (HMS).

Established in 1958, the EPL is an interdisciplinary and collaborative research institute with a historically high profile in auditory neurosciences. It is located within an active clinical setting, comprising 31 basic-science and clinical investigators studying varied aspects of hearing and deafness. The OHNS Department at MEE is also home to scientists studying voice and speech, balance and vestibular function, head and neck cancer, taste and smell, and facial nerve function. MEE researchers hold faculty appointments at HMS and participate in teaching programs for graduate students, medical students, and residents. As a group, OHNS researchers receive more than $15 million/year in direct costs from federal grants.

Applicants must possess an M.D., Ph.D., or equivalent degree and have demonstrated scientific leadership and significant experience in either a basic or translational research program of national and international standing, as well as exceptional communication skills. The new Director and Vice Chair will help shape the scientific direction of the EPL and the Department, driving the focus of future recruitments and leading fund-raising efforts, which have netted more than $100 million in private philanthropy over the last 10 years. The successful candidate will serve as a critical liaison between OHNS researchers and the administrative leadership at MEE and its parent organization, Mass General Brigham, and will also be expected to continue his/her own research activities and laboratory mentoring.

The application deadline is November 1, 2022. Interested candidates should send a CV and a personal statement describing their strategic vision to:
