At the forefront of medical discovery as it relates to understanding the causes of obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer and dementia, Pennington Biomedical Research Center is a campus of Louisiana State University and conducts basic, clinical and population research. The Center includes Basic Science, Clinical Research, and Population and Public Health, enabling both focused research and translational science. Job Description:

Pennington Biomedical Research Center, a world-renowned academic research institute of Louisiana State University, is seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Researcher in Biomedical Imaging.

The Postdoctoral Researcher will study effects of lifestyle factors, including physical activity, cardiovascular risk management, and intranasal insulin, on the aging brain. Existing cognitive and neuroimaging data that is ready for the fellow to analyze comes from physical activity interventions among older African Americans, an intranasal insulin intervention among middle-aged African Americans, and the observational Bogalusa Heart Study that has lifespan cardiovascular risk exposure data.  

The fellowship will provide training and hands-on research experiences in exercise science, neuroimaging, health disparities, aging, and community-based interventions. The fellow will assist with study design and implementation and lead his or her own data analyses and publication of study findings. In addition, the fellow will have the opportunity to work on secondary data from additional interventional and observational studies related to physical activity, and cardiometabolic and aging outcomes. The goal of the fellowship is for the fellow to develop his or her own unique research agenda related to health disparities, aging, neuroscience, or other related areas. This work will occur in a highly collaborative and diverse research environment with opportunities to contribute to a wide variety of publications, presentations, and grant proposals.

Job Responsibilities  

  • Assume primary responsibility for the development of his/her research and career.
  • Seek career and research advice from available faculty.
  • Perform the research required by the faculty supervisor to a high standard.
  • Participate in scheduled post-doctoral career development activities.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. in a field related to exercise science, neuroimaging, health disparities, or aging. Evidence of a publication productivity in major conferences or journals. Excellent oral presentation and communication skills. Evidence of work in multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience conducting behavioral lifestyle interventions, experience with community-based research, experience doing clinical research in ethnic minority groups or other under-represented populations, experience with neuroimaging, cardiovascular disease, and data analysis.
