Overview

The Hematology Department at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is looking for a highly motivated Senior Bioinformatics Research Scientist or Bioinformatics Research Scientist to develop and apply innovative analytical approaches to study the mechanisms of normal hematopoiesis and blood disorders and optimize therapeutical genomic editing with single cell-based technologies such as scRNA-seq, scDNA-seq and scATAC-seq. The candidate takes a lead role in data analysis, scientific advice, bioinformatics support for different related research projects. Candidates should have a strong background in bioinformatics, functional genomics, and machine learning. Knowledge in hematopoiesis, genetics and genome editing is preferred but not necessary.  Good communication skills are essential. 


Responsibilities

  • Takes a lead role in data analysis, data visualization, statistical analysis, experimental design, database development, mathematical modeling, and novel method development
  • Working independently, provides bioinformatics analysis for investigators and communicates analytical process and results
  • Actively participates in or leads the preparation and submission of manuscripts for publication
  • Recommends ideas to automate or improve existing analysis method
  • May act as a project manager of designated research computing applications
  • Provides project oversight, scientific advice, programming support or necessary input to achieve established objectives
  • Ensures that efficient and prompt help is provided to SJCRH PIs and other investigators


Minimum Education

  • Bachelor's degree is required


Minimum Experience

Senior Bioinformatics Research Scientist

  • Ten (10) years of relevant post-degree work experience is required
  • Eight (8) years of relevant post-degree work experience is required with a Master's degree
  • Five (5) years of relevant post-degree work experience is required with a PhD

Bioinformatic Research Scientist

  • Seven (7) years of relevant post-degree work experience is required
  • Five (5) years of relevant post-degree work experience is required with a Master's degree
  • Two (2) years of relevant post-degree work experience is required with a PhD
