Job Details

Candidates are being considered for a postdoctoral research associate position in the laboratory of Dr. Luiz Pessoa (emotioncognition dot org) at the University of Maryland, College Park. Work in the lab focuses on the interactions between cognitive and emotional/motivational systems using functional MRI and behavioral techniques, which are interrogated with increasingly computational and mathematical techniques. Research will focus on dynamic/naturalistic experimental paradigms, including development of new analysis strategies.

Requirements include a PhD in neuroscience or related area. Experience in cognitive neuroscience and strong knowledge of functional MRI analysis is important. Strong computational skills (experience with Python, R, Stan), as well as strengths in mathematics and statistics, are highly desirable. The position offers excellent training in advanced aspects of neuroimaging data analysis, including machine learning, neural networks, and graph-theoretic/network techniques.

The University of Maryland, College Park, offers excellent resources for neuroimaging and houses a 3T Siemens system. The university is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer. Persons from underrepresented groups in academia are strongly encouraged to apply. Start date: As soon as possible. Please email a CV and request that letters of recommendation be sent to Luiz Pessoa (pessoa at umd dot edu).

Offers of employment are contingent on completion of a background check. A prior criminal conviction
or convictions will not automatically disqualify a finalist from employment in the position.

communities a top priority. As part of that commitment, the University System of Maryland (USM)
recently announced that students, faculty, and staff on USM campuses, including UMD, are
required to be vaccinated against COVID. As a prospective and/or a new employee at UMD, you will be
required to comply with the University’s vaccination protocol. Proof of full vaccination will be required
before the start of employment in order to work at any University of Maryland location. Prospective or
new employees may seek a medical or religious exemption to the vaccination requirement
at return.umd.edu and must have an approved exemption prior to the start of their employment. Failure
to provide proof of vaccination or to obtain approval for a medical or religious exemption will result in
the offer of employment being rescinded.
