Brown University invites applications from rising and established leaders in neuroengineering for a tenure-track/tenured position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. Brown Engineering provides a unique environment, emphasizing the power of interdisciplinary thought with a focus on expanding connections across engineering disciplines and beyond traditional departmental boundaries. Brown Engineering has a long history of leadership in neuroengineering research and translation, with further acceleration from a new Engineering Research building, strong interactions with the Carney Institute for Brain Science, extensive partnership with the VA RR&D Center for Neurorestoration and Neurotechnology (CfNN), and a new Institute for Biology, Engineering, and Medicine (I-BEAM).
Successful applicants will have an outstanding record of research and teaching in one or more of, but not limited to, the following areas: real-time neural signal decoding and responsive neuromodulation, next-generation neural interface development including multimodal sensors or actuators of the nervous system, human high-resolution electrophysiology, computational neuroscience, translational rehabilitation engineering, and novel hypothesis-driven inquiry of human brain and spinal cord function. We seek a faculty member who will contribute to the mission of the School of Engineering and the broader brain science community, and will help to create and advance neurotechnology to restore, replace, or repair neurologic function. Direct engagement in clinical research is strongly encouraged. We are particularly interested in scholars who demonstrate commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion in the brain sciences and engineering. Applicants with postdoctoral and/or industry experience in neuroengineering are encouraged, as are more established academic investigators.
Brown’s Carney Institute promotes discovery and innovation in brain science by supporting a diverse community of experimentalists, theorists, engineers, and clinicians. With more than 180 affiliated faculty members in more than 20 academic and clinical units, the Carney Institute catalyzes research across the brain sciences, including in the neurobiology of cells and circuits, computation in brain and mind, cognition and behavior, and neuroengineering and neurotechnology.
The VA RR&D Center for Neurorestoration and Neurotechnology (CfNN) is a collaboration between the VA Providence Healthcare System, Brown University, Butler Hospital, Lifespan, and Massachusetts General Hospital. CfNN unifies distinguished researchers and clinicians to advance and translate neurotechnology to restore lost function. Through its three focus areas and three support cores, CfNN seeks to develop, test and implement new therapies and technologies that restore function for Veterans with disorders affecting the nervous system.
We seek to hire an exciting new faculty member who will work closely with the engineering, brain science, and translational clinical science community at Brown University.
