NEUROSCIENCE/ANIMAL PHYSIOLOGY AND RELATED FIELDS

The Department of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology (MCDB) in the College of Literature, Science and the Arts at the University of Michigan solicits applications for two faculty positions at the Assistant Professor level, but appointment at a more senior level is possible for applicants with suitable experience. The faculty position will be tenured or tenure track with a university year appointment starting August 28, 2023 or January 1, 2024. Successful candidates will be expected to establish a vigorous, extramurally-funded research program and provide instruction to both undergraduate and graduate students in a diverse, inclusive environment.

We welcome applications from outstanding biological scientists in all areas of cell/molecular biology, with emphasis on researchers working in the broad areas of neuroscience and animal physiology. Experimental approaches may include (but are not limited to) genetics, genomics, structural biology, electrophysiology, systems neurobiology, in vivo imaging, and single cell technologies. For further information about MCDB research areas and the goals of this faculty search, please visit www.lsa.umich.edu/mcdb.

All applications must be submitted on-line at https://webapps.lsa.umich.edu/Apply/MCDB22. You will be asked to upload the following materials: A cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a brief summary of recent research accomplishments and statement of future research plans, a statement of teaching interests and philosophy. Also include a personal statement that describes your demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through scholarship/research, and/or teaching/mentoring, and/or service/engagement (this statement may overlap with your teaching statement).

Applicants should provide names and contact information for at least three references, as instructed in the on-line application form. For any questions, please contact mcdb-search@umich.edu. To ensure full consideration, all materials should be received by October 1, 2022. In-person interviews will occur on two dates: Dec. 1-2 and 8-9 using a mini-symposium format.

Highly qualified applicants, including more junior postdoctoral fellows (i.e., PhD conferred in the last five years), are also encouraged to apply directly to the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts’ Collegiate Fellowship (LCF) Program (https://lsa.umich.edu/ncid/fellowships-awards/ncid-postdoctoral-fellowship.html). This program, aimed at recruiting faculty with outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion, provide for an optional fellowship period before transitioning onto the tenure track. Applications for the LCF should be received by September 19; the MCDB Department should be referenced with the application.

Offers for these appointments are contingent on successful completion of a background screening. The University of Michigan is supportive of the needs of dual career couples and is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer. Women and members of minority groups are encouraged to apply.

This offer is contingent upon reporting your COVID19 proof of vaccinations no later than one week before your appointment start date. You may request a medical or religious exemption; however, successful completion of the exemption process must occur prior to your start date. If you will not be up to date on your vaccinations at the time of hire (defined as receiving all recommended doses in the primary vaccine series and one booster when eligible), you may request an exemption. A temporary postponement may be requested if you are unable to receive the primary series or booster in your country of origin or current location.
