Job Details

Job Description:
The Stern lab
at the Neuroscience Institute at Georgia State University, in Atlanta GA, is offering an NIH funded Postdoctoral Position to study intercellular signaling mechanisms in hypothalamic circuitry, with a particular focus on neuro-glial-vascular interactions in health and disease conditions. Our laboratory uses cutting edge techniques including Ex-vivo and in-vivo 2-photon confocal imaging with simultaneous patch-clamp electrophysiology, opto/chemo genetics, neuropeptide sensors, molecular biology, and behavioral studies among others. Current projects focus on (1) evaluating the role hypothalamic neuropeptides on neurovascular coupling; (2) unraveling cellular mechanisms influencing dendritic excitability and release of neuropeptides; and (3) assessing mechanisms underlying neuroinflammation and hypoxia in cardiometabolic diseases.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate has a Ph.D. or comparable doctoral degree in Neuroscience or related field. Expertise in electrophysiology or imaging is preferred but not required.  Candidates should have excellent written and verbal communication skills, an inquisitive mind, and high enthusiasm to work in a multi-disciplinary team. Underrepresented minorities are highly encouraged to apply.

The position is funded up to 4 years, pending satisfactory performance upon annual review. We are a diverse, international research team and we look forward to expanding our team with highly motivated members! We promote career development with our trainees, so this position will also involve mentoring towards obtaining independent funding as part of the training.

A competitive salary and benefits will be commensurate with experience and in accordance with NIH guidelines. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
