The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for a part-time Program Coordinator, Neuroscience Research Education for the Department of Psychology. This position is contingent upon funding. The Program Coordinator position is essential to the mission of maintaining a $2.4M National Institute of Health (NIH) undergraduate research training grant. The position combines mentoring and administrative duties and will directly support the principal investigators of the grant. The Program Coordinator will independently manage and monitor placement of 12 student trainees per year in the appropriate academic year and summer program training positions. The position will be responsible for human resources administration by interviewing, hiring and maintaining payroll processes for student trainees; including onboarding, training and verifying/approving timesheets. This position will also manage conference travel and attendance for trainees.

The Program Coordinator will use knowledge of the field of neuroscience and the major scientific approaches to neuroscience research to coordinate with summer program staff and facilitate summer placements with research faculty at the summer partner sites (University of Michigan, UC Davis, UC Berkeley, and Stanford University). The position will assist with scientific mentoring of trainees by using knowledge of neuroscience and scientific research to provide feedback on the content and clarity of conference materials that will be presented. This Coordinator will manage program data, including statistical analyses of the data and assistance with writing the eventual empirical paper report and will manage grant administrative procedures and fiscal reporting by assisting with budget creation and managing grant spending and reconciliation. Lastly, the Coordinator will manage timely reconciliation of all program expenses within Workday and prepare and submit required NIH fiscal reports.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and two (2) year of related professional work experience or a Master’s Degree and one (1) year of related work experience

Related Experience

  • Some research experience in Neuroscience or related scientific field
  • Demonstrated interest in or commitment to supporting and helping to mentor undergraduates from underrepresented backgrounds or related experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors and/or Masters degree in Neuroscience or related scientific field (e.g., biology, psychology) strongly preferred

Schedule and Travel Requirements

  • Travel (costs covered by the grant) to the annual meeting of the Society for Neuroscience (SfN) meeting in October or November each year.
  • This is a part-time position of 20 hours per week. The work schedule is flexible; the Program Coordinator will be expected to schedule the 20 weekly in-office hours during regular business days and hours (M-F, between 8am and 5pm).
