A postdoctoral scientist position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Arbi Nazarian in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Western University of Health Sciences. The laboratory examines pain-induced emotional and cognitive changes that may enhance vulnerability to drug abuse and psychiatric conditions using rodent models. The laboratory uses behavioral pharmacology approaches to examine non-reflexive measures of pain-related changes in affect and cognition. Examination of pain-induced impulsivity and its mechanisms is a primary focus of the laboratory and the funding associated with this postdoctoral position.
The preferred candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:
- Ph.D. in Neuroscience or a closely related field.
- Experience working with small animals, especially rats.
- Experience in operant conditioning and other models of drug reward and/or pain is highly desirable.
- Experience in rodent behavioral assays, stereotaxic surgeries, neuropharmacology, molecular biology, immunohistochemistry, microscopy, neurochemistry, and other techniques.
Some of the essential job functions associated with this job include (a) working closely with the principal investigator on funded projects; (b) participating in data collection and analysis (c) maintaining the research laboratory and related equipment; (d) performing duties and tasks as assigned by the PI.
