The Faculty of Medical Sciences (FMS) at Newcastle University aims to recruit a Professor / Reader / Senior Lecturer of Sensory, Perceptual, and Cognitive Neuroscience to work primarily on non-human primate models (macaques and/or marmosets) within the Biosciences Institute in the Faculty of Medical Sciences.  Electrophysiology and MRI imaging is of particular interest, but expertise in other techniques such as 2-photon imaging, optogenetics, EEG are also relevant. 


You will lead a team with the ambition and expertise needed to elucidate the cellular mechanisms underlying sensation, perception, cognition, and action. You will have a strong vision of how to develop and lead a research programme in the Biosciences Institute, with a proven ability to secure external funding to support your exciting research program.  A strong focus on interdisciplinarity and team science, exploring links to bio-scientists, clinicians and other researchers at NU is of particular interest. You will also have an internationally competitive research portfolio and have a wide network of collaborations. 


You will be embedded in the NUCoRE for transformative Neuroscience, a cross Faculty Research Centre to understand brain function and translate findings into the clinic. Additionally, you will interact with members of different research themes in FMS, foremost, but not limited to, the Neuroscience, Neurodisability and Neurological Disorders theme and the Mental Health, Dementia and Neurodegeneration theme. 

You must have a PhD in a relevant subject area, an excellent publication record and be competitive for externally funded research grants in line with your level of seniority.  Career breaks will be taken into account.
