TECHNICIAN B

A technician position is available in the Nectow Laboratory at Columbia University in New York City. The Nectow Lab is comprised of scientists and engineers from diverse backgrounds exploring how the brain regulates energy balance. In general, we study the mechanisms through which the brain regulates how much food one eats and how much energy one expends. We also develop novel technologies to better understand brain function. We are currently looking for someone who will work with other lab members to help design and implement experiments critical to the lab, including molecular cloning, animal work, in vivo calcium imaging, and/or functional manipulations of neural circuits (e.g. optogenetics, chemogenetics).

The successful candidate will have had significant prior laboratory experience, ideally within neuroscience or molecular biology. Extensive training will be provided by our laboratory, but the candidate would ideally have some working familiarity with either basic or advanced techniques in neuroscience (e.g., behavior, immunohistochemistry, stereotaxic mouse surgery) or molecular biology (e.g., cloning, PCR, etc.). However, regardless of prior experience and/or background, we are always looking for individuals of exceptional talent and creativity in diverse scientific fields, so please reach out to inquire about the position. Excellent organizational skills are required. This is a one to two-year position, ideal for recently graduating college students looking to apply to graduate and/or medical school. Many former lab members have subsequently attended the top medical/graduate schools.

A bachelor’s degree in one of the following (or related fields) is required: biology (neuroscience, molecular biology), engineering (biomedical, chemical), applied math, chemistry, computer science, and/or physics.
