A postdoctoral position is available in the Department of Neuroscience at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in the laboratory of Dr. Roger Clem. The overarching purpose of our research program is to elucidate the circuit and synaptic mechanisms underlying behavioral plasticity. In particular, we are interested in the organization of neural circuits that support aversive and appetitive responses in the mouse, and how these substrates change as a function of 1. development, 2. stress, and 3. learning. Toward this end we utilize a complementary set of approaches including anatomical tracing, whole-cell electrophysiology, in vivo optogenetics, calcium-based fiber photometry and miniscope imaging. Funded opportunities are available to explore how experience modulates discrete cell types and stimulus-specific ensembles in the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC), as well as the functional contribution of these populations to conditioned and unconditioned emotional behavior.
