Two NIH funded positions are available to investigate questions in neuroscience using the Drosophila model system. Our laboratory https://www.fau.edu/honors/faculty/macleod/ investigates:
i) the means by which mitochondria support neurotransmission, contribute to synaptic plasticity and become involved in neuropathologies, and,
ii) the influence of pH homeostasis on neurotransmission, synaptic plasticity and neurological conditions.
Within our laboratory the candidate will have the opportunity to build proficiency in biophysical approaches to neurophysiology including high-speed fluorescence imaging, electrophysiology and electron microscopy.
Our laboratory is well equipped and highly interactive. It is part of the FAU Institute for Human Health and Disease Intervention www.fau.edu/i-health/ , FAU Brain Institute www.ibrain.fau.edu , and Jupiter Life Sciences Initiative www.fau.edu/jlsi/ all located in Jupiter on the John D. MacArthur campus of Florida Atlantic University adjacent to the Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience and The Scripps Research Institute. With a tropical climate, Jupiter was ranked as one of the Happiest Seaside Towns in America by Coastal Living.
