The Auditory Development and Connectomics Laboratory, headed by Dr. George Spirou, in the new Department of Medical Engineering, is recruiting a laboratory manager. In collaboration with Dr. Spirou, the laboratory manager will oversee the activities of all laboratory personnel to help drive the development of young scientists in the ADCL. To aid in the execution of ADCL’s goals, the lab manager will supervise the design and ensure the timeliness of data collection and analysis, which will include conducting their own experiments. The laboratory manager will also assist with the development and writing of manuscripts and grants and work with college personnel to manage and reconcile all laboratory budgets.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Conduct experiments in at least one of the following areas: tissue processing and volume imaging using fluorescence light microscopy; tissue processing and imaging using electron microscopy
  • Collaborate with PI and other researchers on manuscripts and grant writing as co-author
  • Expand laboratory knowledge by reading and evaluating scientific literature
  • Manage laboratory operations and supervise all laboratory staff, including hiring, appointment, and termination
  • Develop and maintain proficiency with laboratory data analysis software
  • Ensure that all internal USF and external grant compliance documents are prepared and submitted properly
  • Work with laboratory personnel to oversee ordering of laboratory supplies, maintain key laboratory equipment, and identify needs for equipment repair or replacement
  • Manage laboratory budgets and ensure proper reconciliation with departmental and college administrative staff
  • In conjunction with PI, establish and maintain all laboratory publicity, such as websites, news releases, internet postings
