Postdoctoral Fellow in Neuroscience

An NIH-funded postdoctoral position is immediately available in the laboratory of Dr. Masuo Ohno at the Center for Dementia Research (CDR), Nathan S. Kline Institute. We are seeking a motivated postdoctoral fellow who is interested in investigating the mechanisms of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and related cognitive impairments, aiming to develop disease-modifying therapeutic interventions. Currently, our focus is on the β-secretase enzyme BACE1 that initiates the production of Aβ peptides. We are exploring strategies for designing safe and practical BACE1 inhibitor trials, ranging from combination or multi-targeted therapy for symptomatic AD to preventive BACE1 inhibitor monotherapy in a preclinical stage of AD. The project employs multidisciplinary approaches, including molecular and biochemical analyses, pathologies, signaling pathways, synaptic function, pharmacology, and behavioral testing of genetically engineered mouse models of AD. The CDR has a highly interactive neuroscience community that works on neurodegenerative diseases across different laboratories. Additional information is available at https://www.nki.rfmh.org/research/center-dementia-research-cdr/ohno-lab.

The successful candidate should have a Ph.D. degree and a strong background in research using microscopy and protein assay techniques such as western blotting, ELISA and immunohistochemistry. Experience in the neurobiology of neurodegenerative disease, animal models, behavioral assays, and/or electrophysiology is an advantage. The candidate should have an excellent track record of productivity evidenced by high-quality publications and be motivated by his/her desire to better understand AD pathogenesis and bring efficacious therapy to patients. The Nathan Kline Institute is an Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action employer and located in the Hudson River Valley region of New York (about 15 miles north of NYC). Interested candidates must apply online at https://nki.applicantpro.com/jobs/2123621.html and upload a current CV, including a brief description of research interest and the names and contact details of three references. Questions about this position should be sent to Dr. Masuo Ohno at masuo.ohno@nki.rfmh.org.
