An NIH-funded postdoctoral position is available in Dr. Nien-Pei Tsai’s laboratory at the Department of Molecular and Integrative Physiology, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. We seek highly motivated individuals to join our collaborative and fast-growing research team to study the molecular mechanisms underlying dysregulation of synaptic plasticity and excitability homeostasis in neurological and psychiatric disorders using genetic mouse models. The current research focuses of our lab include: 1) hippocampal synapse development and synaptic plasticity in autism and epilepsy; 2) seizure-induced cellular stress response and its effect on excitability homeostasis in autism and epilepsy; 3) synaptic defects and comorbid seizures in early stage Alzheimer’s disease. More information about the lab can be found at https://nptsai.web.illinois.edu/wp/

The Tsai lab utilizes a diverse array of approaches including but not limited to patch-clamp and multi-electrode array recordings, confocal and 2-photon microscopy, biochemistry and molecular biology, mouse genetics, and rodent behavioral assays. Applicants with Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Physiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or a related field with a demonstrated record of past training and an interest in molecular and cellular neuroscience are encouraged to apply. Prior experience with ex vivo electrophysiology or rodent behavioral assays is preferred but not required.
