The successful candidate will investigate the CNS circuits that allow animals to move as they interact with their environment. The candidate will specifically study how brainstem descending motor systems regulate sensory processing by spinal interneurons in mice to identify general principles of motor control. The project is part of an international research consortium that compares descending motor control in different model organisms.

The candidate will conduct experiments, write research summaries, abstracts for meetings and manuscripts for publications and will be encouraged to submit fellowship and grant proposals for career development. The candidate will also be offered opportunities to mentor undergraduate and graduate students at Emory and Georgia Tech.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in Neurophysiology/Neurobiology/Neuroscience and a record of peer-reviewed research publications documenting expertise with the wet-laboratory research techniques described below.  Excellent scientific writing ability, strong oral communication skills, dynamic, organized, and self-motivated for research.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Priority will be given to candidates with a combination of the following: previous work on neonatal brainstem or spinal cord, strong surgical skills (e.g., survival surgeries), live calcium imaging, in vivo or in vitro electrophysiology, optogenetics, and experience with working with mice.

OTHER DETAILS: The position relates to a 5-year NSF grant obtained 09-2020 (https://neuronex.org/projects/23). Start date as soon as March 2022. The initial appointment is for one year to be renewed yearly depending on satisfactory progress and availability of funds. Salary and fringe benefits will be paid according to the NIH scale https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-20-070.html
