The Department of Neurobiology and Anatomical Sciences at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) is currently recruiting new faculty members on the tenure-track at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor levels. The Department of Neurobiology and Anatomical Sciences is one of the founding departments of the multidisciplinary UMMC Neuro Institute which boasts a wide array of resources for faculty including brand new lab spaces, NIH-supported core facilities, and intramural funding opportunities. We are currently seeking outstanding candidates in any field of neuroscience who can complement or build upon existing strengths in the Neuro Institute including (but not limited to): sensory and motor systems; reward/motivation/addiction; developmental and cell biology; neurodegeneration and aging; brain and spinal cord injury; molecular therapeutics; and behavioral neuroscience. The ideal candidate(s) may employ a combination of approaches, including, but not limited to: advanced cellular or molecular imaging, electrophysiology, optogenetic or chemogenetic manipulation of neural circuits, gene targeting or gene therapies, behavioral assays, biochemistry, and bioinformatics and/or computational approaches.

The University of Mississippi Medical Center offers a rich academic environment with extensive opportunities for collaboration within the Neuro Institute and across departments within the seven professional schools located on campus; as well as with multiple related centers, including UMMC’s nationally recognized MIND Center, and the University of Mississippi’s National Center for Natural Products Research.

Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) in Biology, Neuroscience, or a related discipline. Applicants must have a demonstrated track record of scholarly productivity and be capable of developing an independent, extramurally-funded research program. The ideal candidate(s) will also have teaching experience and a desire and willingness to help train medical students and students in the PhD program in neuroscience.

Jackson is centrally located between New Orleans, LA and Memphis, TN, both of which are easily reached by train or car.
