Postdoctoral Researcher

Employer
Ohio State University
Location
Columbus, Ohio
Salary
NIH scale for postdoctoral researchers
Closing date
Mar 13, 2022

Two NIH-funded postdoctoral positions are currently available in the laboratory of Dr. Karl Obrietan (Department of Neuroscience) & Dr. Kari Hoyt (Division of Pharmaceutics and Pharmacology) at Ohio State University.  For position 1, the research project will use a combination of slice culture (both confocal-based imaging and lumicycle-based profiling) and in vivo multi-photon imaging to mechanistically characterize the roles that peptidergic, Ca2+ and kinase signaling play in the regulation of SCN clock cell timing, synchronization and light entrainment. As indicated, this position requires the use of a variety of advanced cellular and molecular imaging techniques and quantitative high-throughput cell profiling methods, as well as standard cellular- and molecular-based profiling approaches. For position 2, the research project is aimed at understanding the mechanistic relationships (at a cellular, systems, and genetics level) between dysregulation of the circadian timing system and Alzheimer’s disease pathogenesis. Analysis will be focused on clock timing mechanisms within both cortico-limbic circuits and the SCN. This position requires the use of the noted imaging-based approaches along with sleep/EEG recording and a full complement of behavioral, pharmacological, and circadian profiling approaches. The use of transgenic (e.g., clock-reporter) and knockout mouse models is central to both research lines. Of note, both the multi-photon (Olympus FVMPE-RS) and confocal (Leica SP8) systems are housed within the lab and postdoctoral fellows will have priority, fee-free, use.

Candidates with a Ph.D. in biological sciences, including neuroscience, cell biology, pharmacology or related fields, and a strong interest in cell signaling and quantitative analytical methods are encouraged to apply.

Ohio State University is located in Columbus, a large and diverse metropolitan city with a favorable cost-of-living  https://visit.osu.edu/experience. The lab has an excellent track record of placing Research Fellows in high-level academic and industry positions.

To apply, please email your curriculum vitae, a brief statement of research experience and names of three references to Dr. Karl Obrietan at obrietan.1@osu.edu.
