Assistant Professor (Research) in the Clinical Study Center of the Neurology Department at Wayne State University School of Medicine

The Department of Neurology has a clinical study team with 12 members who run over 30 clinical trials and other clinical studies. Our neurology clinic follows about 11,000 patients with a variety of neurological diseases annually. These have offered highly enriched clinical materials for scientific studies. We aim to expand this clinical research core by acquiring additional talented scientists. The details are as follows:

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. To lead the research team under the supervision of the Department Chair.
  2. To develop new sequences on the Siemens platform for MR angiography and venography.
  3. To develop a specialized processing pipeline for MICRO imaging of the human vasculature.
  4. To integrate SWI and QSM processing into imaging the microvasculature of the brain.
  5. To teach magnetic resonance imaging course BME 7710 with other MR faculty.
  6. To provide consultations to clinicians in human MRI imaging studies.
  7. To collaborate with neurologists and analyze imaging data collected from patients with dementia, Parkinson disease, multiple sclerosis, peripheral nerve diseases and other neurological orders.
  8. To assist and develop specific research projects by collaborating with clinicians, which would allow the candidate to acquire research grants from NIH and other funding agencies.

Basic Qualifications: 

  1. Comprehensive knowledge of the fundamentals of MRI and applications in quantitative neuroimaging.
  2. Experience in implementing and application of SWI and QSM as well as computerized MRI image analysis with excellent publications in this area;
  3. PhD degree in Biomedical Engineer or related field involving MRI physics;
  4. Strong foundation in numerical brain simulations, clinical study protocol design, designing and implementing algorithmic solutions, image registration/tissue segmentation for 3D and 4D datasets, numerical modeling-optimization and statistics.
  5. Prior teaching experience in graduate-level university courses.
  6. Past training or a degree or experience in computer programming
  7. Independence in work and the ability to conduct research as well as publishing the results.
