The Scott Lab group at Nemours is looking for a motivated postdoctoral associate scientist to carry out a project to understand neural dynamics underlying executive behaviors in a rat model of autism. The lab has made recent advances on the understanding of executive function using single unit electrophysiology and have identified a potential therapeutic approach that will be pursued during this project.

The postdoctoral fellow will be in a very supportive environment for career development. They will learn advanced electrophysiological and behavioral methods within a complex systems framework. Spin-off projects that could lead to independent funding are encouraged. Dr. Scott is an experienced mentor with previous trainees that have gone on to tenure-track Assistant Professor positions, Physician Scientist positions as well as positions in industry. The postdoctoral fellow will be expected to collaborate with the Hernan Lab, mentor more junior lab members, and contribute intellectually to all aspects of the project. Candidates must have a recent or anticipated Ph.D., or M.D./Ph.D. degree and excellent interpersonal skills conducive to working in a team.

Expected Skills:

  • Stereotaxic surgery and single unit in vivo electrophysiology
  • Matlab for processing electrophysiological data
  • Rat handling and behavior
