The Oregon Institute of Occupational Health Sciences at Oregon Health & Science University invites applications for two full-time faculty positions at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor to study mechanisms of stress. These research programs will complement the Institute's basic, applied, and translational researchers. The successful candidate will lead an experimental research program that leverages model organisms (e.g., rodents, non-human primates, population reference mouse, worm recombinant inbred panels) to explore the role of stress in health and disease. Research areas of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Somatic (nuclear or mitochondrial) or germline genetic variation
  • Complex trait genetics of chronic disease (e.g., cardiometabolic disease)
  • Genetic determinants of intermediate phenotypes (e.g., chromatin structure, transcription, translation)
  • Next-generation sequencing/‘omics or high-throughput screening approaches to detecting novel roles of genetic variation in disease
  • Gene-environment interactions

  • Social hierarchy and status as a predictor of physiological or cellular stress
  • Social defeat or social isolation models of psychosocial stress
  • Gene-environment interactions
  • Next-generation sequencing or ‘omics approaches to determining mechanisms of psychosocial stress impacts on health and disease

Applicants must have an MD and/or PhD or equivalent degree and demonstrated excellence and accomplishments in research.
